Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY seeks a pharmacy intern to assist licensed pharmacists under supervision, dispensing and compounding medications, reviewing orders, and ensuring patient safety and accuracy.

You will use automated dispensing cabinets, support sterile product preparation, maintain inventory, and assist in ambulatory and inpatient pharmacies while complying with HIPAA and safety standards. Weekend and holiday availability is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school of pharmacy and graduating in 2027 or 2028.
• Completed first professional year of pharmacy school.
• Eligible to receive a NYS pharmacy intern permit.
• Able to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacist(s) with interpretation of medication orders to ensure accurate doses and frequencies.
• Use clinical information systems for patient data retrieval and label printing.
• Communicate with healthcare personnel clearly and politely.
• Collect patient-specific clinical information (age, weight, labs).
• Prepare, label, and deliver patient medications and unit doses.
• Prepare sterile and non-sterile products and parenteral solutions.
• Operate automated dispensing cabinets and manage dispensing pockets with accuracy.
• Maintain accurate files, statistics, and records relating to medication use.
• Handle controlled substances records and inventory with accuracy.
• Maintain organized and clean pharmacy area with proper storage.
• Assist customers at windows and handle telephone inquiries professionally.
• Record daily workload statistics and deliver medications on time.
• Engage in packaging, labeling, and unit dose preparation with automated packaging systems.
• File paperwork properly and ensure compliance with policies.
• Fill ambulatory prescriptions under pharmacist supervision and verify payments.
