Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to assist pharmacists with medication orders, labeling, and compounding. You will ensure safety and accuracy of therapies, access patient information under HIPAA, and support sterile and non-sterile preparations.

The role requires current enrollment in a pharmacy program, completion of first year, and eligibility for a NYS intern permit. Weekend/holiday work may be required; hourly rate is competitive and aligned with shift

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school of pharmacy with graduation in 2027 or 2028.
• Completed first professional year of pharmacy school.
• Eligible to receive a NYS pharmacy intern permit.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacist(s) with interpretation of medication orders to ensure accurate doses and frequencies.
• Use clinical information systems to retrieve patient information, print reports and labels.
• Communicate with healthcare personnel to relay information accurately and politely.
• Collect patient-specific clinical information (age, weight, labs) for medication decisions.
• Prepare, label and deliver patient medication cassettes and unit doses per guidelines.
• Prepare sterile and non-sterile products and parenteral solutions according to protocol.
• Use automated dispensing cabinets for medication refill, review, and inventory management.
• Maintain accurate records and files for medication use and requests.
• Handle controlled substances records and inventory with accuracy and proper signatures.
• Maintain clean, organized pharmacy work area and stocking levels.
• Assist customers at windows and answer phones professionally.
• Record daily workload statistics and ensure no missing information.
• Deliver medications timely and correctly to patient care areas.
• Assist with packaging, labeling and unit dose packaging.
• Operate carousel technology and restock medications, run stock reports.
