Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support clinical and hospital pharmacy operations at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. The position involves patient counseling, medication dispensing, and collaboration with pharmacists and care teams.

The role requires enrollment in an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy, active Minnesota Pharmacy Intern registration, and strong customer service and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as a student at an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Excellent customer service, problem-solving and math skills are required.
• Proficiency in English is essential for communication with patients and team members.
• Active Pharmacy Intern registration with MN State Board of Pharmacy upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient counseling and prospective drug use evaluation.
• Perform patient evaluations related to prescribed therapies; collect, analyze, and interpret data.
• Monitor patient records for allergies, drug interactions, and therapy appropriateness.
• Dispense medications accurately and in compliance with regulations.
• Identify and resolve patient-specific medication-related problems.
• Support medication safety and error management activities.
• Ensure accurate and complete billing to payers.
• Utilize pharmacy technologies to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary discussions.
• Maintain proficiency in pharmacy practice through ongoing education.
• Demonstrate cultural competence and developmental sensitivity in patient care.
• Handle insurance verification, prior authorizations, and third-party prescription issues; process manual prescriptions; handle cash register and customer service tasks; support scheduling, software, and bookkeeping; explain progression from student roles to clinical duties.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas; support inpatient workflows, including sterile compounding; participate in multidisciplinary care discussions; emphasize infusion therapies and patient monitoring.
