Job Requirements
POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, Stewardship, and Teamwork by contributing to outstanding quality, values, and service to the customer. Pharmacy Cashiers are expected to perform with responsibility, accuracy, accountability, efficiency, and courtesy.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Quality/No Harm:
- Maintains appearance and organization of work area, waiting bin, mail room, and will-call area.
- Follows pharmacy policies and procedures while performing all assigned tasks.
- Presents the “offer to counsel” to each customer at the time of register transaction.
- Prepares packaging for mail order and courier prescriptions for safe and accurate shipment/delivery.
- Ensures packaging for mail order, pick-up, and courier prescriptions are safe/secure and appear professional.
- Reviews each medication with the customer at the register to ensure that the order is complete and correct inside the bag.
- Assists each customer and involves supervisor/director if a concern that should be addressed by leadership has been presented.
- Runs a daily report of “ready” prescriptions, pulls the 14-day prescriptions from the bin, and places phone calls to customers with 7-day-old prescriptions.
- Calls customers with pending prescription concerns that need to be mailed or couriered (pending concerns include invalid credit card numbers and checks that need to be mailed to us).
- Unpacks weekly supply orders and stocks items appropriately.
Customer Experience:
- Assures that all customers are waited on in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Communicates and performs in a friendly, tactful, and professional way at all times.
- Sets an example as a team player.
- Greets and addresses recurring customers by first and last name.
Stewardship:
- Charges mail order and courier prescriptions through pharmacy software.
- Counts register contents upon opening and closing of the business day.
- Remains within a standard overage/shortage limit of 0.005 times the amount of sales to determine cashier drawer discrepancies.
- Closes register at the end of the business day, including drawer declaration and reconciliation.
Work Experience
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact successfully with customers and associates.
- Two years of cashier experience.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to stand for eight hours.
- Ability to lift up to thirty pounds.
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers; good hand and wrist dexterity for typing and computer work for 8-10 hours daily.
- Ability to work in a noisy environment, handle frequent interruptions, and adapt to changes in workload and workflow.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to read and write at a high school level.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to multi-task without compromising efficiency.
