Job Description

The local Hospital Barista/Cashier position involves receiving cash from customers or employees for food items purchased and brewing a variety of coffee beverages. This position is based in Kotzebue, AK, supporting the Maniilaq Health Center.

This position is based in Kotzebue, Alaska, working at the Maniilaq Health Center. The rotational schedule will be 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off. The point of hire origins are Anchorage, AK, and each village within the NANA Region.

Responsibilities
  • Handle cash transactions, including making change and cashing checks.
  • Operate the cash register to record sales and display costs.
  • Maintain the cafeteria area, ensuring it is stocked, clean, and functional.
  • Clean dining and associated areas regularly.
  • Prepare special lists and pricing as needed.
  • Monitor food quality and quantity, reporting issues as necessary.
  • Assist customers with inquiries and provide general information.
  • Manage cash drawers and safe deposits.
  • Prepare a variety of coffee, tea, and other beverages using coffee urns, makers, and drink mixers.
  • Assist other food service employees as needed.
  • Head/Lead Cashier duties include: supervising cashiers, directing personnel, overseeing cashier transactions, monitoring meal tickets and invoices, recording and reconciling cash, and delegating cleaning tasks.
  • Assist the manager with special projects and other duties pertinent to the department's success.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum three months of experience in cash handling and cleaning procedures.
  • Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification (contingent upon 90 days of hire).
  • Pass a fingerprinting background check complying with relevant laws.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Barista experience is preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Indoor environment with moderate noise levels. High customer interaction. The environment is a hospital food service setting. Frequently required to walk, stand, and lift. Occasionally required to push and pull. Must occasionally lift/move up to 35 pounds. No travel expected.
