Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hosting a Pharmacist Intern Summer 2027 program at Genoa Healthcare in Westminster, MD. Internship runs June 1, 2027 to August 6, 2027, full-time (40 hours/week) on-site.

You will join a collaborative care team, serving behavioral health patients, with exposure to medication management, immunizations, and regulatory compliance. Candidates must be enrolled in PharmD with early-year completion and eligible to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited PharmD program with at least the first year completed before start of internship June 2027.
• Active licensure as a pharmacist intern or equivalent as required by the state Board of Pharmacy.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
• Preferred: completion of at least one Therapeutics course.
• Preferred: 3.5+ cumulative GPA.
• Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.
• Proven mathematical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Proven strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Distribute drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners.
• Provide information to customers about medications and their use.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing patient records and processing insurance claims.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws of the applicable State Board of Pharmacy.
• Administer immunizations as allowed by state boards of pharmacy.
• Contribute to a safe and secure workspace and communicate safety concerns to leadership.
• Comply with policies and regulations set by the Board of Pharmacy and other regulators.
• Handle PHI in accordance with HIPAA standards.
