Qualifications

  • Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed as a registered pharmacist with an unrestricted license in Virginia.
  • Must be immunization certified.
  • Prior pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain PHI/EPHI compliance and HIPAA guidelines.

Description

The Pharmacist assists the Chief Pharmacy Officer in assuring the availability, quality, continuity, and appropriateness of pharmacy services. They prepare, and dispense prescriptions and pharmacy-related products, answer patient questions, participate in patient assistance and other quality assurance programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in pharmacy from an accredited institution.
  • Licensed as a registered pharmacist with an unrestricted license in the state Virginia is required.
  • Must be immunization certified.
  • Prior pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Must complete and maintain all recertification requirements for continued licensure and certification, and retain updated copies as applicable.
  • Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for all life cycles.
  • Must demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Certification as an Interpreter is preferred and ability to provide bilingual patient care is a plus.
Summary

  • Submit appropriate claims for third-party reimbursement.
  • Consult with clinicians and clinical support staff regarding pharmaceutical questions.
  • Provide patient medication counseling and education through the proper use of labels, accessory labels and personal contact.
  • Assist in maintaining an up-to-date formulary; uses the formulary to dispense the proper generic or brand name drug as prescribed by a clinician.
  • Monitor storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Document and report medication errors to the Chief Pharmacy Officer.
  • Maintain records of all transactions as necessary to ensure accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Oversee prescription processing activities to ensure that quality and standard of practice is maintained.
  • Maintain inventory and stock levels consistent with Pharmacy goals and manufacturer protocols.
  • Communicate in a timely manner with customers, physicians, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Understand confidentiality with respect to patient/ client care; comply with all federal and state laws applicable to confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and follow HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information.
  • Properly secure and maintain controlled substance inventory.
  • Assist in safe-guarding against diversion of drugs.
  • Utilize the state prescription drug monitoring program.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous waste drugs.
  • Follow drug recall protocol.
  • Comply and properly document requirements for Medicare DME.
  • Other duties and tasks as directed by the Chief Pharmacy Officer.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES ASSIGNED TO DESIGNATED BILINGUAL STAFF

  • If qualified, perform interpretation/translation services for ESRHS centers.
  • If qualified, assist patients with signing up for the Migrant Clinician Network.
