Candidate must be licensed in Virginia and have current immunization certificate.
Responsibilities
- In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager, serve as on‑duty supervisor of pharmacy department ensuring that all essential functions of the pharmacy operation are adequately maintained.
- Provide supervision and guidance for all support staff working in the pharmacy department.
- Offer feedback and comment on the performance of department support staff to Pharmacy Manager.
- Serve as primary customer care advocate ensuring all pharmacy personnel meet customer service standards.
- Support company safety standards and communicate needed equipment repairs or maintenance.
- Ensure completion/maintenance of records and reports as required by regulation or the Pharmacy Manager, Executive Director and/or corporate policy and procedures.
- Support training of all personnel at the pharmacy location; recommend training interventions to Pharmacy Manager.
- Work closely with Pharmacy Manager or Executive Director to develop and implement operational enhancement and efficiency enhancement programs and practices for the pharmacy location.
- Work closely with Executive Director, Pharmacy Manager and pharmacy personnel to identify, develop and execute marketing opportunities to enhance pharmacy sales.
- Monitor adjudication of third‑party claims, conduct follow‑up as necessary to ensure claims are paid in a timely fashion; identify problems in third‑party systems and report to Pharmacy Manager or Executive Director.
- In coordination with Pharmacy Manager and Executive Director, ensure all company policies, procedures and practices are maintained and followed by all pharmacy personnel.
- Monitor and oversee pharmacy inventory and complete daily drug purchasing (including CSOS) of inventory and returns.
- Ensure pharmacy maintains compliance with all state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager or Executive Director.
- Perform primary functions of a retail pharmacist, including but not limited to:
- Proper and accurate dispensing of prescription medication.
- Operation of claim adjudication system.
- Patient counseling and health advocacy.
- Liaison services with patients, prescribers and other individuals/organizations having business with or requesting pharmacy services.
- Make clinical decisions on each prescription presented (drug interactions, drug‑disease state checks, allergy profile, dosage, strength, quantity checks, etc.).
- Accurately prepare and dispense medication in full compliance with the physician’s order and all applicable law.
- Work for up to 10 hours without assistance, standing on a concrete floor with a cushioned mat.
- Reach and retrieve medication from floor to overhead level.
- Stocking of pharmacy requires bending, stretching and reaching; able to lift weights up to 25 lb.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses and patients.
- Counsel patients on proper use of medications, OTC products, durable medical equipment and other health care needs, including possible side effects and precautions.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy with a bachelor’s or advanced degree.
- Currently maintain an unrestricted license of practice as a Pharmacist.
- Demonstrated competence in effective communication skills and customer relations.
- Unrestricted ability to fill Medicaid and Medicare prescriptions.
- Demonstrated ability and desire to communicate effectively with customers, associates, other health professionals and the community at large.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule consistent with a stimulating retail environment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and provide direction to associates.
- High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Performance in this position requires the employee to walk, stoop, speak, write, and operate office equipment including, but not limited to, computer terminals and telephone systems.
- Some minor lifting (less than 25 lb) is required.
- Employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time during working hours.
Preferred
- Prior retail pharmacy experience.
- Prior management/supervisory experience.
Schedule
- Afternoon shift, Monday to Friday.
- Expected hours: 20–30 per week.
