Job summary

Virginia State Board of Pharmacy licensure is required or must be obtained within 90 days. Evening, night, and weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited program.
• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited program is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, screen and verify all drug orders for proper dosage and administration schedule.
• Counsel patients regarding safe and proper use of medications; resolve drug therapy problems.
• Coordinate with pharmacy personnel to ensure expedited preparation and dispensing of dosage forms.

Job description

The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.

Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.

Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.

Independent action(s) required

The monitoring, screening and verification of all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule and ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.

Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments, counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications, and resolve equipment and operational problems.
