Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. has launched a new customer engagement approach designed to better deliver on patient, caregiver, and HCP expectations in an evolving healthcare environment. The new model focuses on local care delivery, aiming to improve patient experiences and outcomes.

The "ecosystem approach" unites account management, medical, patient access, and market access teams to engage local healthcare systems and identify opportunities for enhancing patient care. This integrated model ensures coordinated, seamless care supported by digital tools to bridge care gaps.

In this model, a Health Science Advisor (HSA) will engage healthcare professionals through in-person, virtual, and digital means, providing expertise on products and conditions. Clinical and Scientific Specialists (CSS) will offer on-demand clinical insights and education on disease states, thought leadership, and real-world evidence.

These ecosystems are led by Ecosystem Leads, with regional autonomy to tailor strategies to local needs. The focus is on quality engagement, accountability, and cohesion between patients and providers, centering on customer needs.

The Health Science Advisor reports to the Ecosystem Lead and collaborates with Medical (CSSs), Market Access (HSAMs), and Patient Support (PELs). The role involves serving as the main contact for healthcare providers, handling complex on-label information confidently.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Proactive outreach to HCPs on product access, formulary, prior authorization, and coverage issues.
  2. Sharing on-label and approved information, managing complex clinical data.
  3. Providing guidance on patient care protocols and connecting providers with CSSs as needed.
  4. Engaging customers via virtual/digital tools, ensuring follow-up and feedback.
  5. Organizing speaker programs and provider discussions for thought leadership.
  6. Contributing to business planning with local insights and targeting strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of pharmaceutical or medical device sales experience.
  • Residency within 50 miles of the primary sales territory.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience engaging with healthcare ecosystem stakeholders.
  • 4+ years in sales, ideally with multiple products and complex healthcare systems.
  • Clinical nursing or APN background preferred.
  • Ability to adapt in a transforming environment.
  • Proven coaching, mentoring, and target achievement skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with clinical knowledge.

Competencies include accountability, strategic thinking, patient/customer focus, effective communication, collaboration, and professional development.

Salary range: $104,640 - $149,600 plus incentives, based on experience and skills.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, tuition reimbursement, 401(k), flexible time off, paid holidays, and more.
