Bartender
Position Summary
The Bartender is responsible for providing friendly, efficient, and professional beverage service to Powderhorn Mountain Resort guests. This position prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, maintains a clean and organized bar area, processes guest transactions accurately, and helps create a welcoming après-ski atmosphere.
The ideal candidate is personable, dependable, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and committed to providing exceptional guest service while following all applicable liquor laws and resort policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, professional service.
- Prepare and serve beer, wine, cocktails, specialty drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes and standards.
- Verify identification and ensure compliance with all applicable Colorado liquor laws and responsible alcohol-service requirements.
- Monitor guest alcohol consumption and refuse service when appropriate and required.
- Operate POS and cash-handling systems accurately.
- Process cash, credit card, and other approved payments.
- Maintain an accurate bar bank and follow all cash-handling procedures.
- Maintain adequate levels of beer, wine, liquor, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other supplies.
- Restock and organize the bar throughout the shift.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized bar, service area, and equipment.
- Wash and polish glassware and maintain bar equipment.
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning, stocking, cash-out procedures, and securing the bar.
- Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, managers, and other resort departments.
- Respond professionally to guest questions, concerns, and requests.
- Promote menu items, specials, and resort offerings when appropriate.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and resort procedures.
- Help maintain a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Assist with special events, après-ski activities, private functions, and high-volume service periods as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Previous bartending or high-volume food & beverage experience preferred.
- Must meet all applicable requirements for serving alcohol in Colorado.
- Must be at least the legal age required to serve alcoholic beverages.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
- Ability to accurately handle cash and operate a POS system.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, and lift.
- Ability to work in a busy, sometimes noisy environment.
- Ability to safely handle glassware, bar equipment, and other service materials.
- Must be able to work in a ski resort environment, including during periods of high guest volume and changing weather conditions.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Fast-paced ski resort food & beverage environment.
- Primarily indoor bar and dining areas, with potential outdoor/event service.
- Schedule may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak ski-season periods.
- Shifts may vary based on resort operations, weather, events, and guest volume.
- Employees may be required to work extended or additional shifts during periods of high business volume.
