Job summary

Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, KS is seeking a full-time Pet Admissions and Retention Specialist to manage the intake process safely and compassionately for dogs, cats and other animals. This role requires attention to detail, emotional resilience, and the ability to compassionately work with diverse groups of people and animals.

You will schedule appointments, process incoming animals, maintain shelter management records, and coordinate with adoptions, behavior and medical teams to ensure smooth

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in animal shelters or nonprofit organizations is a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and good data entry abilities.

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments for returned and surrendered animals.
• Process incoming animals by weighing, aging and vaccinating them; communicate medical concerns to relevant teams.
• Enter animals into the shelter management system accurately.
• Adhere to policies, laws, and GPSPCA requirements.
• Coordinate transfers with other shelters and rescues.
• Provide excellent customer service to pet owners and partners.
• Maintain a clean Admissions Lobby and exam room; ensure supplies are stocked.
• Coordinate with other departments about animal movement and movement of arrivals/outcomes.
