Job summary

Great Plains SPCA in Merriam, KS is seeking an Adoptions Advisor to drive the adoption process end-to-end and deliver outstanding customer service. You will screen potential adopters, match pets to homes, and guide families through every step of the process.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1+ year of relevant experience, and willingness to work weekends. Familiarity with PetPoint is a plus, and bilingual applicants are preferred for effective community outreach.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year of related sales and customer service experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with computer programs such as Internet, MS Office, and PetPoint.
• Knowledge and work-related experience with animals.

Responsibilities

• Drive results and movement of animals through the adoption process.
• Ensure safe and successful adoptions with excellent customer service and matchmaking.
• Uphold a culture of high-quality customer service for all patrons.
• Ask appropriate questions and gather information during the adoption screening process.
• Manage the adoption process from start to finish, including paperwork.
• De-escalate conflicts and maintain calm in stressful situations.
• Communicate GPSPCA services and programs positively to the public.
• Maintain knowledge of adoptable animals to place them in homes.
• Support interdepartmental communication and processes.
• Monitor animal health and behavior and report concerns as needed.

Reports to: Senior Manager of Adoptions

Salary Range: $17 to $21 hourly

Position Summary: This results-focused position is key to ensuring our pets find the right homes. Our matchmaking approach is centered on creating safe and lasting adoptions.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive results and movement of animals through our adoption process
• Ensure safe and successful adoptions through excellent customer service and matchmaking
• Uphold and promote a culture of high-quality customer service for all patrons
• Ability to ask appropriate questions and gather information during adoption screening process
• Manage adoption process from start to finish, including all necessary paperwork
• Ability to diffuse conflict and de-escalate situations when necessary
• Provide information to the public on all GPSPCA services and programs, communicating the organization’s culture, philosophies, and mission in a positive manner
• Understand animal behavior and common issues to create lasting and safe adoption matches
• Ability to speak to an animal’s medical or behavioral needs in a clear and positive manner
• Maintain knowledge of all adoptable animals to appropriately place them in adoptive homes
• Problem solve and think creatively to ensure a positive outcome for customers and animals in our care
• Maintain efficient interdepartmental communication, procedures, and processes
• Monitor health and behavior of adoptable animals, reporting concerns to Shelter Medicine or Behavior teams as needed
• Other duties as needed

Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 1+ year of related sales and customer service experience in a fast-paced corporate environment
• Prefer familiarity with computer functions and programs such as Internet and web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and PetPoint
• Knowledge and work-related experience with animals

Additional Requirements

• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)

• Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and reaching
• Handle and restrain animals weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Lift 50 lbs. to waist height
