Job summary

Animal Care & Control Of NYC is seeking an Admissions Counselor to ensure compassionate intake and effective pathways for animals entering our centers. You will gather history, document behavior, and provide resources to prevent surrender while supporting owners and finders with empathy.

The role requires strong customer service, discretion, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Training is provided, and the team collaborates across departments to serve NYC pets and people.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience required.
• Positive, compassionate attitude, and good computer skills required.
• Treats animals and people with respect, viewing individuals as collaborators.
• Capable of maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
• Competent in clearly documenting conversations and interactions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for 8+ hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide a low-stress intake experience using fear-free practices for animals that may be ill or injured.
• Assist clients with animal admittance through interviews and paperwork, offering empathy and guidance.
• Record all animal and owner information accurately in shelter software.
• Coordinate with supervisor and partner departments to support pathway planning and minimize intake delays.
• Notify and respond to inquiries about relinquishment promptly and professionally.
