Job summary

Animal Care Center of NYC is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join our team. This role supports clients through compassionate intake, documents animal history, and guides surrender prevention options and pathway planning to prevent unnecessary relinquishments.

You will work with multiple ACC departments to ensure proper placement, prepare clear records in our shelter software, and provide resources with a fear-free, non-judgmental approach.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
At least 1 year of customer service experience required.
Positive, compassionate attitude and good computer skills required.
Treats animals and people with respect, viewing individuals as collaborators.
Capable of maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
Competent in clearly documenting conversations and interactions.
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and stand for 8+ hours.

Responsibilities

Provide low-stress intake and empathetic client interviews.
Document animal history, health, and behavior in shelter software.
Offer surrender prevention options and alternatives to relinquishment.
Collaborate with Adoption and New Hope departments for pathway planning.
Respond to inquiries and support clients with resources and referrals.
