Job summary

Magellan Health is seeking a qualified financial counselor to provide coverage across military installations, delivering one-on-one counseling, briefings, and referrals. The role involves collaboration with installation POCs, development of spending plans, and leading financial management classes for various military lifecycle events.

Requirements include a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), minimum 3 years of counseling experience, and U.S.

  • Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent alternative with years of experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of financial counseling experience.
  • U.S. citizen fluent in English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by contract.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
  • Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
  • Must possess AFC/CFP/ChFC certification or equivalent.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provide coverage in short‑term, surge, and on‑demand situations related to military needs, including post‑deployment events and coverage of absent counselors.
  • Deliver the full breadth of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at installations.
  • Conduct one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and offer referrals to external resources as needed.
  • Collaborate with installation and military branch points of contact (POC) to ensure program scope and installation needs are met.
  • Assist service members in developing spending plans for extended absences.
  • Create and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
  • Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, career events).
  • Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
  • Utilize virtual counseling and electronic communication modalities such as web‑based chat, video conferencing, and secure teleconference.
  • Manage "duty to warn" situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
  • Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues along assigned installations.
  • Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (or associate degree + 4 years experience, or high school diploma + 6 years experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of financial counseling experience.
  • U.S. citizen who speaks fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by contract.
  • Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
  • Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
  • Must possess one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Benefits

Competitive salary range: $58,440 – $93,500, with potential for short‑term incentives. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, life, voluntary and other benefits.
