Job summary

Magellan Health is seeking a Personal Financial Counselor to provide comprehensive financial counseling to service members and families at military installations. You will educate on financial services, work with installation POCs, and lead personal finance workshops across the military lifecycle.

Required is a bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of counseling experience; U.S. citizenship and fluent English are essential, with bilingual English/Spanish if required by contract.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required. Applicant may be considered with an associate degree plus four years’ experience or high school diploma plus six years’ experience.
• Three or more years of financial counseling experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract.

Overview

Personal Financial Counselor providing full breadth of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive personal financial counseling services directly to service members and families.
• Educate and counsel on financial services including one‑on‑one counseling, consultation with commanders or other staff, briefings, presentations, and referral resources.
• Work closely with installation and military branch points of contact (POCs) to ensure the program is within scope and meets installation needs.
• Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
• Develop and provide informational financial materials to service members and families.
• Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre‑deployment, post‑deployment, and personal and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
• Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
• Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication, such as web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secure video teleconference sponsored by the customer; virtual PFC support authorized only by the OSD FINRED Program office.
• Manage duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
• Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations.
• Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required. Applicant may be considered with an associate degree plus four years’ experience or high school diploma plus six years’ experience.
• Three or more years of financial counseling experience.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract.
• Obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
• Pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
• Hold one of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

License & Certifications

• Driver License valid in state.

Salary

Base salary range: $58,440 – $93,500. Pay will be adjusted based on individual skills, experience, education, and other permissible factors. Position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and comprehensive benefits package.
