Job description

Personal Banking Officer

Brea, CA, US

Salary Range: $21.00 To $31.00 Hourly

For almost 90 years, Financial Partners Credit Union has provided banking services to Californians. With generally lower loan rates, higher savings rates, and lower fees than the big banks, we emphasize value while delivering the highest levels of service to our members.

What makes us different from a bank? Part of it is our not-for-profit, cooperative structure. Financial Partners is owned by our members, not Wall Street, so we’re committed to doing what’s best for you, rather than the bottom line.

At the same time, we truly believe that focusing on service and member satisfaction is the right thing to do. Our members aren’t just figures on a balance sheet—our mission is to build lifetime financial partnerships.

Since our humble beginnings, we're over $2.2 billion in assets, with 93,000 members, and branches across California, from South San Francisco to San Diego. But one thing hasn’t changed since eight aviation workers pooled $900 in 1937 to launch Financial Partners: our focus on saving money, making money, and saving time for our members.

About the Role:

The Personal Banking Officer plays a critical role in delivering exceptional financial services to individual members by understanding their unique banking needs and providing tailored solutions. This position focuses on building and maintaining strong member relationships to enhance satisfaction and loyalty. This individual will be responsible for advising members on a variety of personal financial products such as savings accounts, loans, credit cards, and investment options. By proactively identifying opportunities for cross‑selling certain products and services, the Personal Banking Officer contributes to the growth and profitability of the credit union. Ultimately, this role ensures that members receive personalized, efficient, and compliant banking services that support their financial goals.

Skills:

The Personal Banking Officer utilizes strong communication and interpersonal skills daily to build rapport and trust with members, ensuring their needs are clearly understood and addressed. Analytical skills are essential for assessing member financial situations and recommending suitable banking products. Proficiency with banking software and digital tools enables efficient transaction processing and accurate record‑keeping. Problem‑solving skills are applied to resolve member issues promptly while maintaining compliance with banking regulations. Additionally, sales and negotiation skills support the identification and promotion of relevant products, contributing to both member satisfaction and the credit union’s growth objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in personal banking, customer service, or financial advisory roles.
  • Strong knowledge of personal finance products, services, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse members.
  • Basic proficiency with banking software and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with CRM systems and digital banking platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet sales targets and contribute to business growth.
  • Bilingual skills to serve a diverse member base.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with members to assess their financial needs and recommend appropriate personal banking products and services.
  • Manage daily banking transactions and resolve member inquiries or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Develop and maintain long‑term relationships with members to foster trust and encourage repeat business.
  • Participate in SEG on sites with senior PBO/BM/BDO to present credit union benefits, opening new memberships, accounts, loan applications and identifying cross‑sell opportunities.
  • Assist members in using convenient access services, such as Mobile, Bill Pay, Direct Deposit, E Banking, E Quest, PTM, ATM and shared branches.
  • Process mortgage and consumer loan applications, prepare documentation as appropriate and fund loans.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of financial services and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for cross‑selling and up‑selling products to meet both member needs and business objectives.
