Job summary

Lake County Government is seeking a Building Permit Technician to provide administrative and technical support for the permitting and inspection process. You will be the primary contact for contractors, property owners, developers, design professionals, and the public regarding permits, plan reviews, inspections, and codes.

You will review applications, process permits, maintain records, calculate fees, and explain permitting procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
1–3 years in permitting, construction, building inspection, planning, zoning, municipal government, customer service, or related field.
Ability to read and interpret permit documents and technical information.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency with office software and ability to learn permitting/records systems.

Responsibilities

Receive, review, and process building permit applications and related documents for completeness and accuracy.
Assist applicants, contractors, property owners, architects, engineers, and the public with permit requirements and procedures.
Enter and maintain permit, project, inspection, and property information in the permitting or records-management system.
Review construction plans for completeness and compliance with submittal requirements.
Calculate permit fees and issue permits according to policies and regulations.
Coordinate routing of permit applications to building officials, inspectors, and other departments.
