Overview

PERMIT TECHNICIAN

SAFEbuilt provides Community Development services. We are seeking a talented and experienced Permit Technician to join our team of professionals. This position offers opportunities for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of assignments with strong support and challenging projects.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and process building permit applications, plans, and supporting documents for completeness and accuracy.
• Provide information to contractors, homeowners, and the public regarding permitting requirements, fees, and inspection procedures.
• Input permit data into the City’s permitting software and maintain accurate electronic and physical records.
• Coordinate plan reviews between applicants and reviewing departments.
• Issue approved building permits, Certificates of Occupancy, and other related documents.
• Assess and collect permit and impact fees.
• Assist with scheduling building inspections and maintaining inspection records.
• Provide exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and via email.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with applicable City and State regulations.
• Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the Building Department.

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent customer service representative skills.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to positively interact with staff, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clients.
• Good time management, organization, attention to detail, and people skills.
• Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and municipal development procedures.

Education & Experience

• ICC Permit Technician and other certifications are a bonus.
• Previous experience in a Florida municipal or county Building Department.
