Job summary

The City of Franklin is seeking a Permit Technician to coordinate the City’s permitting and plan review activities within the Building and Neighborhood Services Department. You will route and track building permit applications and construction documents, verify licenses, calculate fees, and act as the primary point of contact for customers and staff regarding permits and inspections.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or relevant certificate, or 1–3 years related experience.
• ICC Permit Technician Certificate or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Strong computer literacy and familiarity with permit processes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate permit applications and plans review with Building Codes, Civil, and Sanitary Engineering.
• Verify contractor licensure, insurance, and zoning compliance for permits.
• Process permit requests, calculate and collect fees, and issue permits as needed.
• Enter permit data into processing software and maintain records for audits.
• Serve as primary contact for customers and staff regarding permits and inspections.
