Job summary

Develop901 in Memphis is seeking a Permit Technician for the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development. You will process permit data, assist the public on building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits, and help ensure compliance with codes.

This role requires 2 years in construction or clerical work, a high school diploma or GED, and ICC Permit Technician certification or plan to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in construction industry or clerical, bookkeeping, data processing or statistical work.
• High school diploma or GED; OR one year experience with one year of college study (30 sem. hrs. or 36 qtrs).
• ICC Permit Technician certification or obtain within six months of hire date.
• Proof of education, training and/or experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Processes and enters data into permit systems and records for processing or issuing permits, licenses, documents, etc.
• Acts as a customer liaison for the Office of Land Use Control and Development Services, providing front-line customer service and handling inquiries.
• Receives and reviews permit submittals and documents for accuracy and conformance with codes and procedures.
• Processes new building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing permit applications including data entry and record review.
• Reviews and issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits and certificates of occupancy as directed.
• Assists in reviewing applications by comparing mechanical attributes against codes, policies and procedures.
• Conducts research on past or pending permits to assist inspectors in inspections.
• Files and maintains records and issues department documents as required.
• Obtains data to prepare and compile standard reports.
• Performs related duties as required.
