Job summary

Sedgwick County is seeking a qualified individual for the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department in Wichita, KS. The role involves issuing electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits, handling payments, and providing frontline customer support.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with clerical and customer service experience; proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook. Preferred candidates have an associate’s degree or college coursework, construction

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree or some college preferred.
• Three years clerical and customer service experience and construction experience preferred.
• ICC certificate(s) in Building, Plans Examiner, Residential Inspector, etc. preferred; bilingual would be a plus.

Responsibilities

• Issues Residential and Commercial permits for Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical for Wichita and Sedgwick County.
• Vets applications and verifies completeness prior to issuance.
• Collects fees using cashiering best practices.
• Trains contractors on how to use portal and IVR.
• Researches requests for timely and accurate responses to customers, public and other agencies.
• Collaborates with internal and external departments for processes and information resolution/flow.
• Responds to customer inquiries by phone, email, FAX or in person; handles inquiries and complaints.
