Job summary

Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department in Wichita, KS is seeking a Trade Permit Specialist. You will issue residential and commercial permits for Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical work, processing in-person and web submissions and ensuring compliance with adopted codes.

Strong clerical and customer-service skills, plus proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook, are required. ICC credentials and bilingual abilities are preferred and encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Two years clerical and customer service experience.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Good attention to detail and ability to discern input requirements from data.
• Associates degree or some college or trade courses preferred.
• Three years clerical and customer service experience with three years construction experience preferred.
• ICC certificates in Building, Plans Examiner, Residential Inspector, etc. preferred.
• Bilingual abilities welcome.

Responsibilities

• Issuance of Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical permits for Wichita and Sedgwick County.
• Face-to-face permit processing and web-based submissions.
• Collect fees using cashiering best practices.
• Train contractors on portal and IVR usage.
• Respond to customer inquiries by phone, email, or in person.
• Collaborate with internal/external departments to resolve issues.
