Job summary

MKEC Engineering is seeking a Part-Time Construction Inspector at our Wichita, KS location. The role involves inspecting municipal and civil projects, preparing daily logs, and coordinating with contractors and clients. The schedule is project-based with variable hours, including 30–40+ hours per week during active periods.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED; an associate degree is preferred and 2–5 years of civil inspection or trades experience. Valid driver’s license required.

• 2–5 years civil construction inspection or hands-on trades experience.
• Ability to read and interpret plan sheets, drawings, and specs.
• Clear communication with field crews and clients.
• Proficiency with tablets, PDF tools and daily reporting apps.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections on municipal and civil projects to verify plans, specs and codes.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection logs with photos, quantities, weather, crew sizes, and progress.
• Communicate daily with contractors, engineers, and clients.
• Observe basic field sampling/testing and verify installation of rebar, aggregate, and bedding.
• Monitor sites for adherence to traffic control plans and erosion control rules.
• Measure installed quantities for contractor pay estimates and maintain as‑built records.
