Job summary

CSG Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Permit Technician in California to perform front-line customer service and assist with plan reviews, permit issuance, and data management. You will process applications, verify site details, and provide guidance on permit steps at the counter and on the phone.

Responsibilities include handling permits and plans, maintaining logs, generating reports, and coordinating with Building Inspection staff. Local residency in CA is required; driving may be needed.

Qualifications

• ICC Permit Technician certification required within 6 months (up to 12 months with manager approval).
• Two years clerical experience with public contact or one year permit technician experience.
• High school diploma or GED; proficiency with permitting software and MS Office; valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work with minimal supervision while providing department support.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, jurisdiction staff and the public.
• Serve clients with excellent customer service and educate customers on permit process when needed.
• Provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding permit process and activity.
• Distribute and review building permit applications for issuance according to procedures and legal requirements.
• Review plans for completeness and compliance with basic code requirements.
• Verify plot plan, lot location, and planning/zoning requirements.
• Respond to public inquiries regarding status of submitted projects.
• Compute mathematical, statistical and financial computations and collect fees as directed.
• Maintain and update permit applications log and plan checks.
