Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Permit Technician to support nationwide permitting for retail and grocery projects. This on-site or hybrid role involves preparing submittals, coordinating with AHJs, and tracking permit status across multiple states.

You will work with project teams and the Permit Manager to move applications toward issuance. First-year goals include managing 50–75 permits, building AHJ relationships, and contributing ideas to the evolving permit group.

Qualifications

• Experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction industry in some capacity.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to juggle deadlines.
• Comfortable with multiple programs and browser windows simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Identify the permitting scope for each project and prepare applications and documentation.
• Track jurisdiction contacts and permit status across a nationwide portfolio.
• Submit permit applications and coordinate through the review process until approvals.
• Partner with project architects and engineers to gather required documentation.
• Build and maintain relationships with Authorities Having Jurisdiction across states.
• Maintain accurate tracking logs and status reports in Smartsheet.
• Flag delays and schedule risks to project teams before timelines are affected.
• Contribute ideas to improve internal permit processes as the department grows.
