Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Permit Technician to support the permitting process for national retail and grocery projects. You will work on-site or hybrid from one of our offices, joining a new permit group as the second technician and collaborating with the Permit Manager and municipal jurisdictions.

Within the first year you will manage 50–75 permits across stages, build AHJ relationships across states, and contribute ideas to develop department processes and workflows as we scale.

Qualifications

• Experience in architecture, engineering, or construction industry related roles such as project coordination or engineering support.
• Strong computer skills; comfortable navigating multiple programs and browser windows.
• High attention to detail; small errors can cause delays.
• Ability to manage several competing deadlines and priorities.
• Adaptable and resourceful when requirements change mid-project.
• Comfortable with an iterative process including review comments and resubmittals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify permitting scope for each project and prepare applications and documentation for submittal.
• Track jurisdiction contacts and permit status across nationwide projects.
• Submit permit applications and coordinate through the review process until approved.
• Collaborate with project architects and engineers to gather required documentation.
• Build and maintain relationships with Authorities Having Jurisdiction across multiple states.
• Maintain accurate tracking logs and status reports in Smartsheet.
• Flag permit delays and schedule risks to project teams.
