Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Permit Technician to support the permitting process for a growing national retail and grocery project portfolio. The role offers on-site or hybrid work from one of the offices and works with the Permit Manager and AHJs to move permits from application to issuance.

Within the first year, you will manage 50–75 permits concurrently and build strong state-wide relationships, contributing ideas to scale the new permit group.

Qualifications

• Experience in architecture, engineering, or construction industry roles.
• Strong computer skills across multiple programs (Smartsheet, Bluebeam, Outlook).
• High attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Adaptable and resourceful when requirements change.
• Comfort with an iterative submission process.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify the permitting scope for each project and prepare the applications and documentation required for submittal.
• Track jurisdiction contacts and permit status across a growing portfolio of retail and grocery projects nationwide.
• Submit permit applications and coordinate through the review process until permits are approved.
• Partner with project architects and engineers to gather documentation for each submittal.
• Build and maintain relationships with AHJs across multiple states.
• Maintain tracking logs and status reports in Smartsheet to inform clients and teams.
• Flag permit delays and schedule risks to teams before impact.
• Contribute ideas to improve internal permit processes as the dept grows.
