Job summary

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Permit Technician to support the permitting process for our national retail and grocery projects. This on-site or hybrid role works with the Permit Manager, project teams, and AHJs to move permits from application to issuance.

You will identify scope, prepare submittals, track status across states, and build relationships with jurisdictions. Prior permitting experience isn’t required; industry experience is valued and growth paths exist.

Qualifications

• Experience in architecture, engineering, or construction industry in some capacity.
• Strong computer skills and ability to navigate multiple programs (Smartsheet, Bluebeam, Outlook).
• High attention to detail; minor errors can cause delays.
• Ability to manage several competing deadlines and priorities.
• Adaptable and resourceful when requirements change mid-project.
• Comfortable with an iterative review and resubmittal process.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify permitting scope and prepare submittal documents.
• Track jurisdiction contacts and permit status nationwide.
• Submit applications and coordinate through review until approval.
• Collaborate with project architects and engineers to gather documentation.
• Build relationships with AHJs across multiple states.
• Maintain tracking logs and status reports in Smartsheet.
• Flag delays and risks to prevent schedule impacts.
• Contribute ideas to improve permit processes.
