Join to apply for the Permit Clerk role at City of Midland, Texas

Assists the public with the issuance of building permits and scheduling inspections required by the City of Midland. Responds to phone calls and emails, maintains communication with the public, homeowners, builders, contractors, and other City personnel. Provides excellent customer service and collaborates with other Code Administration staff. Reports directly to the Residential Permit and Customer Service Manager.

Essential Job Duties
  1. Issue permits and schedule inspections after review for compliance.
  2. Enter permit data into databases.
  3. Assist the public via telephone, email, or in person with permits and questions.
  4. Collect and reconcile permit fees; prepare monthly financial reports.
  5. Register contractors and assist with bonding processes.
  6. Relay requests from the public to the appropriate staff.
  7. Perform office duties such as typing, filing, copying, and record maintenance, including report generation.
  8. Assist city personnel, including field inspectors, as needed.
  9. Perform other duties as required by the Building Official.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Ability to sit, stand, move about, lift drawings and code books, and operate computers and phones for extended periods.

Required Qualifications

Effective communication skills with contractors, citizens, and colleagues. Good telephone and public relations skills. Ability to handle irate customers. Ability to read and understand written materials. Proficiency with calculators, mobile phones, personal computers, and Microsoft Office programs. High school diploma or equivalent plus clerical or office experience.
