The City of Katy is seeking a Permit Clerk to join our team and provide professional, courteous service to residents, contractors, and other customers. The Permit Clerk accepts and processes permit applications and payments while performing a variety of clerical, administrative, and customer service duties in support of the City's permitting operations.

Greets and assists customers and residents in person and by telephone; routes calls to the appropriate individual or department, takes detailed messages, and responds to inquiries.
Accepts, reviews, and processes permit applications and related documentation.
Stamps plans received for review and assists with the coordination of plan review activities.
Schedules pre-construction meetings and distributes plan review letters and other related correspondence as needed.
Receives and records payments, balances daily cash receipts, and prepares bank deposits in accordance with established procedures.
Monitors permits for expiration and notifies contractors regarding expired permits.
Prepares, generates, processes, and maintains permit records and files.
Maintains an adequate supply of permit applications and related materials in public areas.
Collects, assembles, binds, staples, and duplicates documents and other materials.
Processes correspondence and other administrative materials as directed.
Schedules meetings and appointments.
Opens, sorts, and distributes incoming mail.
Performs data entry, filing, recordkeeping, and other routine clerical functions.
Maintains confidentiality and accuracy when handling customer, permit, and financial information.
For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent; and
Two (2) years of customer service or clerical experience, preferably in a municipal government environment;
or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Operate a personal computer, standard software applications, and standard office equipment.

Communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
Organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet established deadlines.
Maintain accurate filing and recordkeeping systems.
Provide courteous and professional customer service in a busy public-facing environment.
A valid State of Texas Driver's License may be required.
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. The position requires regular interaction with the public, contractors, and City staff and may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, computer use, telephone communication, filing, and handling office materials.
