Job summary

Dollar General stores require a Perishable Department Lead to manage produce, dairy, meats, bakery, and other perishable items. You will support the Store Manager with inventory, merchandising, and customer service while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

The role involves training associates, recording inventory, and ensuring proper handling and presentation of perishable goods to maximize freshness and minimize waste.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret basic procedures and safety rules.
• Ability to perform basic math and percentage calculations.
• Ability to learn and operate cash registers and generate reports.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit controls.
• Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in protecting company assets and maintaining cash accountability.
• Follow SOPs and company communications for daily operations.
• Maintain perishable stock levels using produce orders, vendor guides, and sales history.
• Train associates in proper stocking, pricing, freshness, and safe handling of food.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns; analyze causes and take corrective action.
• Ensure customer needs are addressed promptly and accurately.
