Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to coordinate perioperative activities across multiple clinics and facilities. The role requires direct communication with patients, physicians, and healthcare staff to ensure accurate scheduling and thorough preparation for surgeries.

Responsibilities include reviewing surgical postings for accuracy, entering referrals, scheduling in Epic, coordinating with hospitals and surgical centers, and managing pre-operative and post-operative appointments.

Qualifications

• Must have CPT/ICD coding knowledge and medical terminology.
• Two years of experience in a clinical or coding/billing setting.
• Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Surgical case management: review postings for accuracy (patient, procedure, diagnosis, site).
• Enter referrals, process orders, and coordinate scheduling in the appropriate template.
• Schedule surgeries in Epic or other systems and secure OR times with hospitals/surgical centers.
• Coordinate pre-op and post-op appointments, clearances, and related services.
• Provide patients with detailed pre- and post-operative instructions and respond to inquiries.
