Job summary

Albany Medical Center's Orthopedic and Robotic Surgical Services seeks a full-time Physician Assistant to join the busy Perioperative Surgical team. You will work with surgeons, gain hands-on exposure to robotic tech (Davinci Xi, dv5, and the Mako inOrthopedics robotics), and assist a wide variety of surgical specialties on our Albany, NY campus.

The position offers schedule flexibility, with a Monday-Friday daytime layout and options for four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant degree program.
• Master's Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and completion of RNFA training.
• Must be licensed and actively registered as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
• Able to quickly master all aspects of a computerized medical recordkeeping and billing system.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
• ACLS/BLS certification required

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive perioperative care for surgical patients.
• Assist surgeons during a wide range of surgical procedures, including robotic assistance in general surgery, urology, gynecology, thoracic & colorectal, and total joints, sports medicine, foot & ankle, upper extremity in Orthopedic department.
• Perform first‑assist and second‑assist duties in the operating room.
• Collaborate with perioperative nursing staff and surgical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care.
• Participate in a collaborative learning environment where experienced surgical teams provide mentorship and training across multiple surgical specialties.
• Maintain proficiency in evolving surgical techniques, technologies, and perioperative best practices through ongoing professional development.
• Document patient encounters, operative notes, and clinical findings accurately and in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and evidence-based practice efforts within the surgical department.
• Support a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and excellence in a fast‑paced surgical environment
