Job summary

Merrimack Health is seeking a Perinatal OR Tech in Lawrence, MA to support Labor & Delivery under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Director of Maternal Child Health.

The role performs surgical tech duties in OB procedures, maintains asepsis, and helps keep the OB OR and delivery rooms ready for cases. Experience in L&D is preferred but not required; CST certification is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CST certification required; new grads may be trained if certified.

Responsibilities

• Performs Surgical Tech role in OB procedures, following standards.
• Maintains knowledge of surgical asepsis and peri-operative procedures in delivery/lab areas.
• Keeps OB OR suite clean and safe; manages instrument counts and proper cleaning.
• Performs scrubbing, setup and case turnover for OB procedures.
• Cleans, restocks and resets OB OR and delivery rooms and carts.
• Assists in emergency situations in L&D as needed.
• Assists in transporting patients to OB OR and postpartum areas.

As the Perinatal OR Tech, you will be under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager or Director of Maternal Child Health. The technician performs technical and ancillary duties in Labor and Delivery (L&D) according to established policies and procedures and according to the standards set by the hospital, AWHONN and AORN. Support the Labor & Delivery staff in providing care to obstetrical patients, especially those requiring surgical intervention.

Responsibilities:

• Performs Surgical Tech Role in procedures relating to the care of the OB patient, according to standards.
• Maintains knowledge of Surgical Asepsis, peri-operative procedures in the delivery room and scrubbing for Cesarean Sections and other minor GYN procedures as deemed necessary.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment in the OB OR suite, including counts of instruments, sponge and needle; appropriate handling and cleaning of surgical instruments; appropriate cleaning and setting up of the OR suite.
• Performs Surgical Tech Role, including scrubbing, procedure set-up and case turnover
• Cleans, Restocks and Resets the OB OR suite and Delivery Rooms, including surgical set-ups, delivery carts, warmers and resuscitation areas.
• Assists in Emergency Situation in L&D as needed or assigned.
• Assists in transporting patients to and from the OB OR and to PP.

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Will train a new grad but must be certified
• Experience in Labor & Delivery preferred but not required
