Job summary

PlusAI in Santa Clara, CA is seeking a Perception Validation Engineer to define validation strategies for AV perception stacks and to build automated testing pipelines that evaluate models on real-world and synthetic data.

You will collaborate with Perception ML and Simulation teams to generate high‑fidelity ground truth, identify edge cases, perform root-cause analysis, and draft safety-focused verification reports for releases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 2+ years of professional experience in testing, validation, or development of robotics/autonomous systems, or computer vision models.
• Strong proficiency in Python (NumPy, Pandas, Pytest) and/or C++.
• Experience manipulating and visualizing large scale datasets (SQL, data lake queries) and using statistical methods to evaluate model performance.
• Solid understanding of core computer vision concepts, deep learning principles, and spatial geometry (3D transformations, coordinate frames).

Responsibilities

• Define Validation Metrics: Establish KPIs and benchmarks for camera, LiDAR, Radar, and sensor-fusion stacks (e.g., precision/recall, mAP, latency, tracking MOTA).
• Build Automated Testing Pipelines: Design and maintain scalable regression testing pipelines for perception algorithms on real-world and synthetic data.
• Ground Truth Generation: Oversee creation of high-fidelity ground truth data via automated labeling tooling and manual curation.
• Edge-Case Mining: Identify and curate challenging real-world scenarios, sensor degradations, and long-tail anomalies to stress-test perception systems.
• Root-Cause Analysis: Collaborate with Perception ML team to debug validation failures and propose data-driven solutions.
• Simulation & Tooling Development: Create realistic sensor models and synthetic scenarios to bridge simulation and real-world validation.
• Safety Documentation: Produce verification and validation reports to support safety cases and software releases.
