Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I (Per Diem) to support patient care under the supervision of licensed clinicians in a busy hospital setting. You will observe, report changes, assist with daily living activities and help ensure a safe environment for patients.

Responsibilities include communication with RNs, high-risk patient observation, safe patient handling, and adherence to care standards while supporting a respectful, professional team culture.

Qualifications

• High school education or GED required.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days as a condition of employment.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English clearly.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic medical terminology knowledge.
• Remain calm when under stress or in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding patient observations.
• Maintain constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assist with daily living activities such as hygiene, ambulation, meals.
• Move and transport patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics.
• Attend meetings and comply with departmental policies and safety regulations.
