Job summary
Edward-Elmhurst Health is seeking a Pathologist Assistant for per diem coverage at Evanston Hospital, with Monday–Friday availability and flexible hours. The role involves gross description, dissection, and prepared specimens for microscopic evaluation under pathologist supervision.
The ideal candidate holds a NAACLS-accredited pathologists’ assistant master’s degree and ASCP PA certification, with 3–5 years of experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
- ASCP Certification (PA) required.
- 3–5 years experience preferred; new grads welcome.
- Ability to operate cryostat, cassette printer, safety hood, bone saw, and related lab equipment.
Responsibilities
- Examine and prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation with gross description and dissection.
- Handle specimens with special procedures including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, radiology or tissue procurement for research.
- Perform frozen sections and intra-operative consultations within established protocols.
- Maintain safety, storage, and disposal procedures for specimens and ensure proper equipment operation.
