Endeavor Health is seeking a Pathologist Assistant for per diem at Evanston Hospital. You will prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation, describe gross findings, and assist with intra-operative consultations under pathologist supervision.

Responsibilities include specimen handling for research, maintaining equipment, training residents, and ensuring safety compliance. Per diem schedule offers varied hours with ongoing opportunities for professional growth within a large healthcare system.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP Certification (PA) required or preferred.
• New grads welcome; 3–5 years of experience preferred.
• Ability to operate cryostat, cassette printer, safety hood, bone saw, voice recognition software, camera, computer and fax machine; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, examine and prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation with gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens from biopsies to complex resections.
• Perform special handling of specimens including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, radiology or tissue procurement for research.
• Perform frozen sections and intra-operative consultations within protocol and parameters.
• Determine proper fixatives for tissue maintenance.
• Photograph all pertinent gross specimens.
• Adhere to policies for handling, storage and disposal of specimens; comply with biohazard and safety standards.
• Assist in training pathology residents, PA students and pathology technician IIs when applicable.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety and cleanliness protocols are followed.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate with other departments; work well in a team.
• Demonstrate attention to detail, problem-solving, and ability to work under pressure.

Hourly Pay Range

$35.16 - $54.50 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights

• Position: Pathologist Assistant - Per Diem
• Location: Evanston Hospital
• Full Time/Part Time: Per diem
• Hours: Monday-Friday, must be flexible

What you will do

• Under the direct supervision of the Pathologists, examine and prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens ranging from biopsies to complex resections.
• Perform additional special handling of the specimens, including but not limited to flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, radiology or tissue procurement for research.
• Perform frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations within established protocol and procedural parameters.
• Determine proper fixative solutions in which tissue may need to be maintained.
• Photograph all pertinent gross specimens.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures related to handling, storage and disposal of all specimens while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety.
• Assist with training of pathology residents, PA students and pathology technician II's (when applicable).
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper safety and cleanliness protocols are followed.
• Ability to communicate clearly, work in harmony with other departments and collaborate effectively in a team.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

What you will need

• Education: Master's Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
• Certification: ASCP Certification (PA, Pathologists' Assistant)
• Experience: New grads welcome, 3-5 years of experience preferred.
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Ability to operate a cryostat, cassette printer, safety hood, bone saw, voice recognition software, camera, computer and fax machine. Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel).
