Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology.
• BLS certification as required by ASC policy.

Responsibilities

• Ensure supplies, equipment, and instruments are ready for use.
• Clean operating room between cases.
• Restock operating rooms to meet par levels.
• Assist other operating rooms for coverage.
• Know surgeon preferences, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
• Prepare cases for next day.
• Operate sterilizer, lights, suction machine and other designated equipment as needed.
• Ensure patient, procedure, site, positioning and equipment match.
• Follow exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
• Report breaks in sterile technique and act per policy.
• Perform hand scrub per policy and procedure.
• Arrange instruments and supplies for procedures.
• Maintain instrument integrity.
• Verify counts of sponges, instruments, and sharps.
• Assist in gowning and draping of patients.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments.
• Communicate needs to circulators for efficiency.
• Prepare and preserve specimens.
• Verify medication name, strength and dosage with circulator; label and place on field.
• Clean and disinfect tables, surfaces, stands, and floor.
• May help transport patient and restock OR.
