Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill is seeking a Nursing Assistant I for a per diem role in the Transplant Acute Care Unit (5 West). The unit handles abdominal transplant, urology, and plastic surgery patients with a focus on high-level, specialized care.

Shifts are 12 hours (day/night) with weekend and holiday rotation, and a minimum of 24 hours monthly. Responsibilities include assisting with examinations, patient care under supervision, vital signs, and family support.

Qualifications

• Nursing Assistant I certification preferred or required by North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prefer six months of nursing assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report significant changes to RN/physician.
• Provide care and treatments per care plan including vital signs, wound care, ROM exercises, and basic patient assistance.
• Support patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
• Reinforce patient teaching and distribute educational materials as requested.
