Job summary

Carbon Health is seeking a Per Diem Medical Assistant in Simi Valley, CA to support providers with patient care, rooming patients, and vital sign documentation. You will prepare exam rooms, collect specimens, perform basic procedures, and document encounters in the EMR.

This per diem role requires flexibility across schedules and locations. The position emphasizes infection control, patient communication, and teamwork with physicians and nurses to deliver patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar clinical support role.
• Proficiency in blood draws (phlebotomy) including safe venipuncture and specimen handling.
• Proficiency in administering injections per provider orders and protocols.
• Ability to perform quality EKGs with proper lead placement and troubleshooting.
• Strong patient care skills with compassionate interaction for patients of all ages.
• Experience with medical records documentation (electronic or paper).
• Professional phone etiquette and clear verbal communication with patients, providers, and staff.
• Ability to work 10-hour shifts (7:45 a.m. – 6:15 p.m.) with a 30-minute lunch.
• Knowledge of basic infection control practices and standard precautions.
• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Support providers with patient care, including rooming patients and documenting vital signs.
• Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies per infection control and safety protocols.
• Perform basic clinical procedures (EKGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, injections as permitted).
• Accurately document all patient encounters in the EMR.
• Assist with scheduling, check-in, check-out, and other front-desk tasks as needed.
• Provide clear instructions to patients regarding tests, procedures, and follow-up.
• Maintain inventory of medical supplies and keep exam rooms stocked and clean.
• Follow clinic policies and regulatory requirements related to patient safety, privacy, and compliance.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and team members for coordinated care.
• Adapt to varying schedules and patient volumes due to per diem role.
