Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support a fast-paced ER team in Texas. From triage to treatment, you will assist with diagnostics, anesthesia setup, and patient monitoring while working alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role; emergency experience is a bonus.
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 kg.
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
• Works well in a fast-paced, diverse team.

Responsibilities

• Triages incoming patients and guides them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification through training.
• Grow into advanced roles via guided training pathways.
• Comply with state laws as required.
