Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Dallas is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER teams. You will support triage, patient care, and diagnostics, while learning from credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

This role offers growth opportunities through guided training pathways and exposure to anesthesia, ultrasound, and advanced procedures. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, some emergency veterinary experience, and strong communication skills,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus!).
• Basic computer skills and EMR/practice software understanding.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg and work in a noisy, odorful environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care from exam room to treatment area and participate in rounds.
