Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous cooking experience required
• High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene required; health status suitable for food service
• Ability to read and understand work assignments, report verbally and provide written documentation
• Respect for residents’ privacy and rights; empathy for the elderly
• Ability to perform tasks with high standards of quality, cleanliness and kindness
• Demonstrated responsibility, diplomacy and teamwork
• Physical endurance for frequent activity; ability to lift boxes weighing 40 pounds occasionally

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all foodservice standards and regulations as set by NYS Department of Health
• Prepare and cook meals according to the menu
• Prepare special meals when prescribed by the physician
• Follow FIFO; label and date foods; discard leftovers after 72 hours
• Maintain cleanliness of pantry, kitchen, cooler/freezer, and dietary office
• Wash and clean all cooking wares and utensils
• Ensure thermometers in refrigerators/freezers show proper temps
• Keep records of serving temperatures, substitutions, and dated menus
• Attend In-Service nutrition and cooking sessions
• Assist with updates to residents’ diet rosters and daily census
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration
