Job summary

WellTheory, a digital health company, seeks a People Ops Generalist in the United States to own payroll, multi-state compliance, benefits administration, leaves and accommodations, and HR policies. You will serve as the firstPeople contact and collaborate with Finance, Recruiting, IT, Ops, and managers, reporting to the Head of People.

As the team grows, you will build scalable systems and self-serve resources for 20+ states, ensuring accurate payroll, compliant processes, and smooth onboarding

Qualifications

• Own payroll processing across multiple states and payroll platforms.
• Maintain compliance with federal/state employment laws and regulations.
• Serve as the primary People-related contact for employees.
• Assist with benefits, leaves, and accommodations processing.
• Regularly update HR policies to reflect growth and legal changes.

Responsibilities

• Run multi-state payroll bi-weekly using Gusto and Deel.
• Set up payroll taxes, workers' comp, and unemployment for new states.
• Be the go-to confidential partner for employee questions and relations issues.
• Navigate benefits questions, open enrollment, leaves, and accommodations with care.
• Keep HR policies current with evolving laws and company growth.
• Own onboarding and offboarding processes for a consistent employee experience.
• Leverage AI to automate repeatable People Ops tasks while maintaining judgment.
