Job summary

Oceanus Marine Technologies is hiring its first in-house People Operations Specialist to own the People foundations as the company scales in El Segundo, CA. You will design and run strategy, systems, programs, and day-to-day operations—balancing employee empathy with business judgment to create scalable, compliant processes that empower the team to do their best work.

This role requires hands-on ownership of payroll, benefits, compliance, and HR systems, with Rippling and Carta experience

Qualifications

• 3+ years in People Operations or HR generalist roles.
• Experience building new People processes, not just admin work.
• Experience supporting exempt and hourly employees.
• Strong knowledge of California employment laws.
• Familiarity with payroll, benefits, lifecycle ops, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Own the People foundations and scale programs.
• Develop and implement People strategy, systems, and day-to-day ops.
• Manage payroll, timekeeping, leaves, and final pay.
• Administer health benefits and 401(k) with brokers.
• Build scalable SOPs, guides, calendars, and self-service resources.
• Support workplace operations at El Segundo offices.
• Partner with outside counsel on compliance and equity matters.
