Job summary

San Francisco Compute is hiring a People Operations Manager to own the operational backbone of our People function. You will bring outsourced HR operations in-house, stabilize day-to-day support, and scale processes as we grow.

You’ll partner with Recruiter and Office Manager and report to the People Lead, shaping how the function runs in a lean, fast-moving startup. You’ll thrive in ambiguity, build processes from scratch, and expand the program as the company scales.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of HR generalist or People Operations experience.
• Ownership of HRIS, payroll, integrations, and data integrity.
• Stabilizing an operational function quickly after joining a company.
• Working knowledge of California employment law (FEHA, CFRA/PFL, exempt classification, final pay).
• Experience owning benefits administration and leave management directly.

Responsibilities

• Own the transition of outsourced HR operations in-house within 30-45 days.
• Evolve HRIS integrations and maintain data integrity across systems.
• Identify automation and scaling opportunities in HR operations.
• Oversee onboarding and offboarding with preboarding and day-one readiness.
• Administer open enrollment and manage benefits broker relationships.
• Handle sensitive leave situations with discretion.
• Build startup-appropriate programs as the function matures.
• Provide data-driven insights to anticipate risks and guide leadership.
• Develop reporting to operate proactively rather than reactively.
