Qualifications

• Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and earn B- or better in tutoring subjects.
• Willingness to mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds.

• Check email regularly and respond promptly.
• Provide weekly tutoring in at least one subject to assigned students.
• Help develop positive study habits and effective learning strategies.
• Give regular progress feedback to SSS Academic Advisors.
• Submit weekly progress assessments and web time sheets by due date.
• Attend mid-semester conferences with students and advisors.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement of the tutoring process.
• Complete Tutor Perception surveys at year end or upon tutoring end.
• Participate in related TRIO activities to achieve program outcomes.

Job Summary

A student assistant will carry out administrative and technicaltasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the studentassistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other studentsor provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties

• Attending all Tutor Training sessions at the beginning andending of each semester.
• Checking your email inbox regularly unless notifiedotherwise.
• Providing weekly tutoring in at least one subject to studentsassigned to you.
• Assisting in the development of positive study habits, studyskills, and learning modalities of tutored students.
• Providing regular feedback to SSS Academic Advisors on yourstudent’s academic progress.
• Completing and submitting your Weekly Progress Assessments andweb time sheets electronically by the due date as required.
• Attending a Mid-Semester Conference with all students you aretutoring and their advisors.
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of the tutorial process.
• Completing a Tutor Perception survey at the end of each academicyear, or the last semester you tutor.
• Actively participating in related activities of the tutorialcomponent to achieve the required outcomes of Student SupportServices.

Required Education

High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• Enrolled as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student atWSU
• Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better
• Earned a grade of B- or better in the courses student will betutoring

Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Good communication skills.
• A strong desire to help first generation, limited income studentsand students with disabilities.
• All applications accepted, but preference will be given tostudents who can tutor in Accounting, Economics, Biology,Chemistry, Physics, and Spanish.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain in a stationary position.
• Ability to operate acomputer and other office equipment including but not limited tophone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
• Ability to communicatewith others and accurately exchange information.
